I bought the garden netting to protect a bucket garden stand for pumpkin plants from the pumpkin vine borer. I ended up sewing the two pieces together along 3 sides (I sewed along 2 short sides and one long side) to create a large mesh tent that drapes over the support stakes. It sewed very easily and nicely on a basic sewing machine with polyester thread. So far, it has worked well in the garden, with the mesh allowing sunlight, water and air to pass through, but not flying insects. It is strong enough to be removed regularly to work with the plants without worrying that it will tear or hook. I did, however, place the tennis ball on the stake to prevent the corners of the stake from damaging the mesh. The mesh was sturdier than I expected, but still very light. I was expecting something like a muslin fabric, but the fibers in this mesh weave are like fine fishing line or monofilament thread. I’m sure it will last for multiple seasons. If I end up needing it, I will definitely buy more.
